Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Hampton City Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to review and answer it. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a visitor loads a page, the server may collect routine technical details about that visit:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- The device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Approximate time spent on a page
- The referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help produce grouped traffic information, such as which pages are used most and where visits end. Browser controls can reject cookies, although some website functions may then work differently.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Hampton County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a personal criminal-record database. It publishes general instructions for records held by Hampton Police, the Sheriff, Hampton courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review the provider's policy before sending a query because those choices are beyond our control.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Hampton government offices, Virginia courts and agencies, legal resources, or independent search tools. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read those terms before supplying personal information.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not operate that tracking.

Personal data is not sold. Information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure site use and performance

- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected here. No internet service can promise perfect security, so a breach cannot be ruled out despite those measures.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information known to have been submitted by a minor will be deleted when identified.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law that applies to a visitor. Virginia public criminal-record access is separately governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Code §§ 2.2-3700 et seq., while CCRE dissemination is limited by Code § 19.2-389. Those laws govern public offices and criminal-history release, not the third-party search providers' own privacy policies. A visitor may ask to:
- Correct inaccurate personal information held by us
- Receive a copy of personal information held by us
- Opt out of processing where an applicable law supplies that choice
- Request deletion where the law requires it
